Scott McKee
CEO • Founder • Conductor
A Western International Band Clinic staff member since 1990, Scott assumed the full-time position of CEO of the American Band College and the Organizing Director of the Western International Band Clinic in August of 2002. He is also the Editor of Bandworld Magazine.

He received his bachelors degree from Southern Oregon University in 1995, and his Master's Degree from the American Band College of Southern Oregon University in 1998. During his years at SOU, he played trumpet/euphonium in many ensembles: combos, quintets, SOU Jazz Band, SOU Symphonic Band, ABC Directors’ Band, Rogue Valley Wind Ensemble, Ashland Community Band and the Rogue Valley Symphony Orchestra.

He taught seven years in the public schools of Oregon (Scappoose and Springfield), where the concert bands were selected for the state band championships every year they competed. At Springfield High, the marching, jazz and concert bands totaled nearly 200 participating students.

As the Organizing Director of Western International Band Clinic, Mr. McKee coordinates logistics for the 1000 WIBC honor band applicants from Washington, Oregon, California, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, Florida, Minnesota, New York, Alaska, CANADA, and AUSTRALIA. The 600 high school students accepted to WIBC are split into four equal bands that rehearse for three days in late November with a gala concert on the last day. 

 



In 2007, Mr. McKee and composer, Ralph Hultgren created the Pacific Honours Ensemble Program in connection with the Western International Band Clinic. A group of twenty honor band students from Griffith University (Pre-tertiery studies), in Brisbane, Australia are selected to perform at WIBC each November. In addition, twenty top United States WIBC students are awarded once-in-a-lifetime trip to Australia to represent WIBC and the U.S. 



In addition to WIBC logistics, Mr. McKee is also the CEO of the American Band College of Central Washington University and on the WIBC Board of Directors (WIBC, Inc.). Almost 200 music educators, from the United States and Canada attend the American Band College, each summer, to acquire their masters degree in music education. Since 1994, over 1000 American Band College students have received their master's degree through the program.

 

Since 2002, Scott McKee has guest conducted/adjudicated bands in the United States, parts of Europe and Australia. He was elected as an Associate Member of the prestigious American Bandmasters Association in 2004 and serves on the photo/video archive committee.

 

As the founder/director of the Willamette Valley Honor Band, Mr. McKee conducts the local high school group that meets during the winter term. The honor band has been performing concert series with regional groups since 2006.

Mr. McKee, his wife, Stacy Swartout-McKee and their five children (Dennis, Tanner, Kelsie, Kamryn and Payton), live throughout Oregon. Stacy Swartout-McKee is the choir director at Springfield High School where she teaches over 250 students each day.
